My Upcoming Events | Optics Club (’04-05) | Meetups | The Hunger Site

I like to learning. I have an incredible lust for strategic board games. However, I’m probably less interested in winning (because, chances are, i will own you every time) and more interested in figuring out why it is we (or rather, I) win. (please be wary of my sarcasm) I’m also spunky, but nice. I have a knack for adoring everyone I meet.
When I’m not hopelessly sitting at my computer during weekends, I like to hang out with other nerds in the valley. And think about optics. In addition to it being the most beautiful science, it’s both scientifically and philosophically profound. But what I want — well, what I essentially need — is to arrive at a place which gives me more freedom and option to research, publish, learn. Continually.
Life looks at me funny every day, and I’m often nudged into the wholesale business. Coming from a family of merchants and traders, it may be inevitable that my life path be such. Is this unjust? Nah.

And some pictures:
This is Chad, my boyfriend. He’s a coder and has enough patience to put up with some nasty languages and myself. He likes to ask me about metamaterials and optics applications, and subsequently, tell me how much more interesting it sounds than programming.
and here’s my mom on her 52nd birthday. She likes to call me up every so often and ask me “What is it you do again? I’m trying to explain it to a friend”.
Winnie Tong was born in Hong Kong and ran across the border while Chuck Norris was securing it. She was denied the lead role as Jack Bauer on 24 because they were afraid the name of the show would have to be renamed 4.

I’m into genealogy. My maiden name is Tong. My grandfather, born in 1875, was from Guangdong, China and later from Hong Kong. Where is your father and grandfather from? Grandfather’s name is Tong Hong. His brother is Tong On married to Kan Shee and had 10 children, 4 boys and six girls. I’m still trying to find something of this family. If this strikes you and any of this interests you, write me.
Thanks,
Mary Tong
